Strawberry Pomegranate Spread
History in the “MAKING!”
Throughout history the Pomegranate, with its rich color and delicious fruit, has been revered as a symbol of health, fertility, and rebirth. Some cultures also believed it held profound and mystical healing powers.
Pomegranates grew in the wild before the dawn of agriculture and were one of the first five domesticated crops along with olives, grapes, figs and dates. Believed to be domesticated somewhere in northern Iran or Turkey, pomegranates still occur in the wild. Historical evidence suggests that man first began planting pomegranate trees sometime between 4000 B.C.E and 3000 B.C.E.
The history of the strawberry goes back as far as the Romans or maybe as far as the Greeks. In the thirteenth century, the first record of the strawberry was its use as a medicinal herb. It was thought to be good for digestive upset or the curing of gout. The strawberries were carefully cultivated and were considered to be important to healthful living. Leaves, roots, crowns, and fruit were used in preparing medicinal teas, syrups, tinctures, and ointments
At last these two healthy, irresistible and historic fruits are combined to create a flavor that has been enjoyed for centuries! Just not together!
